CarolD

I am very sad to share with you that our Carol passed away on January 17.

She shared with us in November that she had a very bad cold and her immune system was compromised from the chemo infusions she was receiving. We didn’t hear from her after that. I tried calling and there was no answer. We sent emails and there was no reply.

Yesterday I searched the internet and found her obituary. I can only guess that she passed away from complications of her illness.

Carol was a shining light to all of us. She took her responsibilities here at SR very seriously. I remember one time asking her if she ever slept. She made sure every new member had a welcome reply.

Carol was straight forward with her wisdom and very funny. She was a shining example of AA recovery.

Carol knew how to live life to the fullest on life’s terms.

I know we will all miss her so much. She would want us to celebrate her life and not grieve her death.

I love you Carol. Rest in peace my dear friend.

A couple of quotes from Carol.

Of course we will die from something....I end my nightly prayer

"Not my will..thine be done" That comforts me.

I worked with Hospice for 3 years...it gave me a calm

peace about my death and life....

...............
Sharing with you...a few tears....many giggles
How much you have enriched my life.
And Yes!.... :a122:
Forward we go...side by side

Oh I'm truly saddened beyond words. She helped me so much when I first discovered SR.

My thoughts are with her family and all those who knew and loved her x

I never had the pleasure of getting to know her, but I have seen many of her older posts, and they truly were imbued with gentleness, warmth and knowledge. I am so sorry to hear of her passing, and my condolences to her family, and her SR family.

That is very sad news.
She helped hundreds if not thousands with our problems. Including me.
Rest in peace Carol.

Rest in peace Carol, knowing the good you accomplished, and thanks Morning Glory for your efforts to find out and pass on the news.

Carol was an inspiration to me. Her honesty and straight forwardness was refreshing. She was a shining example of how the program of AA works if applied to ones life. She helped me learn to temper my responses when in a thread that is heated by first writing out my response in a word document then waiting 24 hours before posting it. Usually when I do that I have found that I edit a lot of what I first would have responded and my response comes across much more compassionate and kinder rather than angry and attacking. I learned a lot from her and I am sure there is a lot more I could have learned.

I considered her a mentor and a friend and deeply miss her.

Thank you for sharing this with us as I have wondered how she has been.

Thank you for sharing with us. I never had the pleasure of "posting" with her but I have read many of her posts. I am sure she will be missed by so many but more importantly she will never be forgotten for all she has done to help others.

God Bless You Carol.

Wow I just happened to check in and this was the first thing I saw. I'm kind of in shock. I hope that some day when I go, I will have helped as many people as she did.

Oh how awful. That's so sad.

My thoughts and prayers are with her family and all who knew her

I agree with nandm - I learned so much from her, especially early on when I came limping in here totally broken.

We had some fun conversations about her love of Ocean City, MD (where I was living when I joined here). She would kid about not remembering the 70's at all - but in a light-hearted way. She taught me not to dwell on who we used to be. Most recently, she encouraged me to post 'My Story'.

I've cried a little, but I know she wouldn't want that. So I'll straighten myself up - and in her honor will try to give back more to this wonderful place that helped save my life.

Godspeed, Carol, you are loved.

Carol's words in my head "Forward we go..." That was her philosophy and her outlook on life and it kept her full of joy and peace throughout her life.

One of the many things I learned from Carol, is that the small things really do count. She laughed and said that she shopped for earings often, and every day she wore earings and put on a dab of perfume and fixed her hair. It didn't matter whether or not she was going out, this was what she did to honor herself.

Carol was hugely grateful for being a part of SR. This community meant so very much to her.

Rest In Peace, my beauiful Carol.

Oh, dear, I am so sorry and sad to hear that. I was on the verge of asking where she was, because I have been off the site for a year or so (not drinking, just incorporating a lot of happy new changes that are gifts of sobriety).

Over the year or two that I was posting before my break, she was a constant, steady presence, and as you said, a shining example of AA recovery at its finest.

LOL, I never even minded when she would *ahem* remind me of lapses in my postings (resulting in more than a couple of my posts being removed) because she always did it with gentleness and understanding.

She was a wonderful moderator and will be greatly missed.

Today is a very sad day for me.

I learned a lot from Carol - as a human being, as a person in recovery, and as a moderator.

She had a great outlook on life, and death, and she was an enormous amount of fun. She was always very 'real'.

I'm trying not to be sad.

She told me many times this last year that human bodies simply wear out and she was ok with that - and she really was.

She had an amazing rich full & varied life, both highs and lows.

I will miss her - dreadfully - but she leaves an amazing legacy here at SR.

I know people in need for years to come will find great comfort from her sharp insight wise words and gentle spirit.

Rest easy Carol. Thank you and godpeed, honey

Carol was always my beacon of hope, for she overcame huge obstacles in her life and moved forward with such grace. Like Anna, she reminded me of how important the small things were and and how to walk in grace. She was a shining example of AA and she lived her 12th step here every single day.

I cried when I heard the news, even though I suspected this might be why she was absent. She was so very loved by all who knew her and my heart will always remember her kind and wise words and her love for every single member here.

This prayer is one that has comforted me often when I have lost a friend. It is so fitting for our dear friend Carol.

Say not in grief that she is no more
but say in thankfulness that she was
A death is not the extinguishing of a light,
but the putting out of the lamp
because the dawn has come.

- Tagore

Rest gently in peace dear Carol. Thank you for your legacy of love. :candle:

Incredibly sad to hear. She always struck me as someone who had led a very full life and was truly at peace with herself. She will be missed.
