Lets see, including overdrafts? Still wayyy too much.

Nevertheless 09-11-2009 06:41 PM

The last 10 years I spent about 10 bucks a day.
Before that I "smoked" and "snorted" a lot more money, but when I hit 35 or 40 all I still wanted was beer.
It really is sad to think about.
If we just ad up beer at 10 dollars a day for 30 years.
30x365=10,950 days.
10,950x10=109,500 dollars.
Thats not counting the 13 DWI's. My last one was in 1987 so I got those before the laws got so tough. Each one of those cost me 750 to 1,000 dollars.

I could probably retire on the money I spent on dope and stupidity if this was all added up.

Since I was a beer drinker, I typically needed a lot of beer on a regular basis. Weekdays was a 12 pack minimum, weekends more. Going out to dinner always meant extra beers, so I probably did that more than I should have (what pleasant company I must have been)... then there was my home-brewing hobby -- I made (and drank) some damned fine beer, not that I would have cared.

So, probably spent $3-400 a month US on beer...

Let's see:
pint of JD:$12.99 ($15.39 now.)

four-pack of clelatas (for a better term, red beer)$6.47 ($8.10 now)

pack of Black & mild cigars: $2.89 ($ 4.10 now)

THEN:$22.35. X 7 days: $156.45- BEFORE TAX

Now, (if I hadn't quit,) $27.59. X 7 days: $193.13 BEFORE TAX

No wonder I only had $8.37 in my bank account. Good thread Bananna Man.

£70 quid a week. On 7.5% cider. Tenner a day basically.

I bought Popov vodka for $4.98 a fifth. All the local liquer stores in my area got to know me so well that they would ration me to 1 bottle a day (they said they did not want lose me as a customer due do to OD).

Do you reckon the liquer store clerks knew I was an alcoholic? I just ended up visiting 2 or 3 stores a day.

At my worst, I might have polished off about 2 cases of beer per week, so figure on anywhere between $50-70 or so. A king's ransom? No, but I can always find a better use for that money. And found money is the best kind!

Between me: ~$800 and AW ~$300 (USD) on booze and smokes = $1100
OUCH!! Now we have close to $700 'extra' money a month since I cut out my portion of the booze bill - the smokes need to go next. :15:

Jade19 09-13-2009 11:58 PM

let's see....18 pack 3 X week, 3 on weekends....at $16.00 each plus smokes...that's like 180.00 a week....and that's just me, not counting my husbands chew and Jack Daniels....no wonder we have about 250 extra each week...nice...

baldjim 09-14-2009 01:12 AM

It's obvious that you're not alone... :-)

I don't even want to think about it.:eek13: It cost me my sanity and dignity, both of which I have regained through AA. ;)

Now I spend entirely too much money on Starbucks, but that's an entirely different subject. ;)

"Only" $100-150 per month -- but I mostly drank beer at home alone, so it was less.

But I wasn't happy with my levels of drinking, so here I am on this and other no-drinking sites..

catch-22 09-15-2009 05:24 AM

About £400/month...

north 09-15-2009 05:29 PM

Somewhere between $800 to $2,000 per month ... the rough average monthly expenditure was probably $1,200. Not solely on booze for myself mind you -- all in the name of "business entertainment". At the time, I honestly believed it was all purposeful and legit. Only now can I admit well more than half was a waste of money/time. Nothing useful gets said or done drinking with a client after 21:00.

KC1 09-15-2009 07:53 PM

Somewhere around $400/month on wine. Yikes!

NeverLookinBack 09-16-2009 11:17 AM

18 pack of beer a day for one week ($15 a day X 7=105)
1 pack of smokes a day for one week= ($5 X 7=35)

About 140-150 a week. Some weeks it was worse than that. However, when I got drunk, I often spent money out of control on stupid things like gambling and take out food. So, in the end, I think I was closer to 250 a week if you include all the stupid things I spend money on while I was drinking.
Since I quit drinking, I have saved a tremendous amount of money.
