Hi Sadgirl and grumpy bear,

You two can do this! It’s really important to have a long term plan for staying sober permanently. It’s hard at first, then it gets easy for a while, then it gets harder again if you get complacent. That’s what happened to me. I relapsed several times because I thought I was cured. I don’t believe we are ever cured from alcoholism. Recovery is a life long process.

I had to change my whole way of thinking and being to stay sober. I started going to therapy, yoga and meditation. I come here daily. I actively reflect on my thoughts that underlie urges to drink. I find replacement thoughts and behaviors.

I am more spiritual now.

Some folks join AA. I did not. I practice twelve steps on my own. There is no one path for everyone. But everyone should have some path or program that they follow on a daily basis.

Once you start getting sober, you won’t be as sad or grumpy!
