I was going to quit on New Year's Day. I ended up quitting on 14 December.

2 1/2 weeks earlier than planned.

Why? I confided in a very good friend of mine that I was quitting for good and I had chosen 1 January and she listened and said: if you're going to quit for good, then why not quit now?

The logic was inescapably true. So I quit.

If you choose to quit on a day in the future, you are still bargaining. Which means you have not accepted sobriety. You have not put drinking completely off the table. I think you know this, secretchord.

Why not just do it now? Throw out that alcohol, and surrender completely to sobriety. It's done, you're done, once and for all. It's over. Life can start again today.
