I had to laugh a little at "she actually talked to me.". Raising kids sure teaches you that you have to let them be when they don't want to talk (especially if everything seems ok), and when they do? It's like Christmas! Haha.
There's your example right there for why you stay sober when you have an awful day, better days are often right around the corner, and they are so incredible when you actually feel them.
