IMHO, without doubt, the best movie about alcoholism ever. It achieves what so few other films do, which is a realistic portrayal of recovery. 55 years later, and that movie is still hard to watch.
So many others grind my gears with depictions of alcoholics who crash and burn, go to rehab and
"poof", all cured for life, become even more successful, loved, etc., or depictions where an alcoholic gets help from a magical guru type who straitens up their life in two or three short scenes,
a' la Bagger Vance.
