Movies about alcoholism ?
Its no surprise to me how alcohol/drugs/etc are advertised as the thing to do at so many times and in so many ways in movies.
I recently saw "Flight" with Denzel Washington being a drunk pilot. How people mange that, or being a drunk taxi diver, etc, is beyond me. In the movie, the night before, when he finds all that booze...its scary. He knows and we know, don't do it, but he does.
What are some others that that deal with trying to quit, or being destroyed by it ?

Leaving Las Vegas had a HUGE impact on me. Nicholas Cage and Elizabeth Shue. I was floored...it is an older movie but I don't want to ruin it by telling you what happens...Tragic example of alcoholism.

"Barfly" starring Mickey Rourke is a must see for any recovering alcoholic. Rourke plays the part of a very intelligent poet with the capacity to be rich and famous but throws it all away to be a degenerate, near homeless alcoholic living in a bad neighborhood. Unfortunately being a hopeless alcoholic is what inspires him to be a great poet so he is doomed to the life.
Yes, "Leaving Las Vegas" is awesome too.
The version of "A Star is Born" with Kristofferson is good too.
I own a copy of all three of these flicks.

I just watched "Bad Lieutenant" a few days ago. Fair warning: the gratuitous drug and alcohol abuse is, in my opinion, not even top of the list of what makes it a controversial and not-appropriate-for-all-viewers film. It's not exactly a redemption/happy ending movie either. But Harvey Keitel plays one of the most believable addicts I've ever seen.
