Good questions. I had a spell of sobriety about a year before I stopped. People might have said to me, "well you had that time up so you know how good it can be". But to be truthful, that sober time was just about the most miserable time of my life. So full of fear, unable to interact with people, disonnected, and unhappy.
In order to get sober and stay that way I had to make some changes, a lot of changes, to make a sober life liveable, let alone enjoyable. A plan for recovery was essential.
