When we raise kids, we normally wake
up before them in order to get them
ready and off to school. For me that
was a normal routine.

Then, after they flew the nest and
I returned to my home town, I was
working early hour jobs of 5 to 2.

I always liked those hours because
I could get my work done and still
have the rest of the day to do something
fun and relax.

Even tho im out of the work force and
retired early, my husband and I still get
up early. I think I heard too that the older
one gets the less sleep one needs.

Ever since I got sober, I have appreciated
my bed more for some wonderful reason.
I remember when I was in my drinking
career, my plate was full from morning
to night or even wee hours of the morning.

Driving on those roads late at night
returning from a club, buzzed, ears
ringing from the music and noise,
driving erratically, putting myself
and others in danger. That was sick.

Today I am in bed for about 7ish, safe,
sober, secure, blessed and snug as a bug.
Then wake up around between 4 and 5am
to the wonderful smell of our community
coffee.

I often would hear in meetings the times
of when the members would wake up each
morning and the one with the earliest time
would say they were sober longer that day
so far.

So whoever gets up the earliest here
in SR would have the longest sobriety
that day. Im pretty sure there are quit
a few more sober minutes or hours
than I if they wake up before me at 5 am.

Just saying....lol
