Early Sober Risers Check-in Thread
Early Sober Risers Check-in Thread
5:57 AM
One thing that I have noticed that really helps to keep my sobriety #1 on my mind is to check in here daily with SoberRecovery.com
Reading some of the threads and posts truly keeps in my minds eye my sober tool belt for the day and good moral sober thoughts.
Anyway, may this thread be a place to come when wanted to check in for the morning or for just about anything on the early morning mind that is planning for a booze free day.

After getting my first cup of coffee, reading SR is the first thing I do. I'm the first up in my family, so I take advantage of the quiet and read through the posts on a daily basis. Then, it's the last thing I read before going to sleep. Sometimes I'll read through posts right after coming home from work.
It's part of the fabric of my life. I owe nearly 1 year sober to SR.

I'm no longer an early riser, and much happier. I wake up each morning around 7:30 a.m. without an alarm clock. For 20+ years, I lived far from where I worked, used an alarm to wake up after sleeping only about 6 hours. Each morning, I would cuss in my mind, and impose a depression upon myself due to sleep deprivation. Since I live only 5 miles from where I work now, I'm happy that I have the great options that I do. These have fed into the success of my daily sobriety.
Yeah, so now I wake up when I used to just be getting in from a night, or a few nights out.
Back in the day, nothing good was happening when I was up at 6 AM. Now it's meditation, coffee, some reading and getting a lot of sh.. done before I hit the streets. Who knew?

can't beat that !
If I may I'd like to hit this thread twice on this morning.
First I was up at 3:45 AM and came to the thread
went outside with a cup of coffee and looked at the stars.
Then to the couch for some early TV and fell back to sleep.
Woke up for the second time a little while ago -- 7 AM.
Two for one -- can't beat that !

My husband and I are both early risers
and I am off to bed early each nite around
7pm.
Early to bed, early to rise help me remain
healthy, wealthy and wise all to the best
of my sober ability. More wealthy in knowledge
than money.....
I log in each morning with my 1st cup
of coffee around 5ish, well rested and
more alert mind, reading shares before
sharing my ESH - experience, strengths
and hopes to those in recovery.
I remain logged in all day as I get up
from my chair many many times tending
to the days tasks ahead of me.
We normally head out to shop early
at Walmart for the days supplies when
the stores are pretty quiet and little
traffic on the road. This helps cut down
the stress, aggravation that comes with
being around others rushing around to
tend to their own businesses.
I try to share when my mind is sharp
in the morning instead of later in the
day when I become more tired.
So whatever I need to do each day
in recovery to remain sober and help
others, also helps me remain responsible
in my own recovery life, healthy, happy
and honest.

Happy sober Sunday early risers here
in my hometown of Baton Rouge.
Rain has finally moved out as we look
forward to a Fall week of cooler tempts
and sun, sun, sun.
I began my recovery life some many one
days at a time ago for 25 years now. I have
learned many lessons thru out the years
incorporating steps and principles set down
for us follow, appreciate and treasure each
day we remain sober or clean.
Today I continue to admit that I am
powerless over alcohol, people, places
and things. Today, I accept that I am
powerless over these things in life. Today
I also believe in a Power greater than
myself to guide me, protect me along
in my recovery journey.
As an early riser, I welcome a new day
sober, clear headed, no horrible hangovers,
no guilt, no remorse, no resentments. I
still take each moment at a time thru out
the day to check my motives, thought,
actions and promptly right the wrongs
I may have done so they wont fester and
cause ripples in my calm of life.
Staying serene and sober thru out this
November Sunday is my responsible goal
to achieve today.

When we raise kids, we normally wake
up before them in order to get them
ready and off to school. For me that
was a normal routine.
Then, after they flew the nest and
I returned to my home town, I was
working early hour jobs of 5 to 2.
I always liked those hours because
I could get my work done and still
have the rest of the day to do something
fun and relax.
Even tho im out of the work force and
retired early, my husband and I still get
up early. I think I heard too that the older
one gets the less sleep one needs.
Ever since I got sober, I have appreciated
my bed more for some wonderful reason.
I remember when I was in my drinking
career, my plate was full from morning
to night or even wee hours of the morning.
Driving on those roads late at night
returning from a club, buzzed, ears
ringing from the music and noise,
driving erratically, putting myself
and others in danger. That was sick.
Today I am in bed for about 7ish, safe,
sober, secure, blessed and snug as a bug.
Then wake up around between 4 and 5am
to the wonderful smell of our community
coffee.
I often would hear in meetings the times
of when the members would wake up each
morning and the one with the earliest time
would say they were sober longer that day
so far.
So whoever gets up the earliest here
in SR would have the longest sobriety
that day. Im pretty sure there are quit
a few more sober minutes or hours
than I if they wake up before me at 5 am.
Just saying....lol
