Oh and no, this is a non fiction about a young Chinese American lady who moves to Beijing for a little while to try on a new life.
Kitchen Chinese (I didn't know this either) is a way of describing how much Mandarin chinese you know. In her case she knew just enough to describe food. In the book she becomes a food critic in Beijing. Pretty entertaining read.
