welcome Rosie. SR is a great place to find support and learn about all the different methods of recovery. Some even use SR as their main support mechanism.
Regarding your AA experience, remember that it's the people you met that may have been agressive, AA by itself is not. If you feel it would help, try some different meetings. There are literally dozens in your area
