Tired of being drunk
I'm new to this website. I tried AA, but they were being a bit aggressive with me and it scared me off. I'm sick of alcohol and I'm sick of being drunk. I really need help to stop. I hope that this site can help me.
Welcome to SR.
I hope so. It's helped many. But if you struggle, I hope you can open yourself to more support. Perhaps even AA, despite your initial impression. Sometimes we try something and we are entirely open to the help, or our addiction is not ready to let go, and hence, finds fault where fault may not be.
There was a time when someone just telling me I drank too much set me off as being aggressive, much less the recovery message of AA.
But guess what? When I was ready...really ready to get sober, I welcomed all the support and help I could harness.

welcome Rosie. SR is a great place to find support and learn about all the different methods of recovery. Some even use SR as their main support mechanism.
Regarding your AA experience, remember that it's the people you met that may have been agressive, AA by itself is not. If you feel it would help, try some different meetings. There are literally dozens in your area Alcoholics Anonymous (A. A.) Meetings in Redlands, California
In the meantime, know that most of us were exactly where you are at some point - sick and tired of being sick and tired. There is a much better way, stick around and ask lots of questions.

Hi.
If you’re an alcoholic this disease needs to be addressed aggressively and AA has the experience to address the problem. I needed this approach as did many others, the medicine may not be to our liking at times but it leads to a healthy sober and comfortable long term recovery IF the program is followed.
As was told me when I first approached “if you have misgivings your misery is refunded-no charge!”
The door is always open and alcoholics are always welcome.
BE WELL

Rosie, there are many ways to stop drinking and if you take a look around, you will see that people have many different ideas about how to achieve sobriety. The bottom line, of course, is to do what works for you. And, SR is a good place to stay.
Welcome Rosie! This is a great community with a ton of support. Bottom line though is you have to want sobriety... Want it more than anything else today.
I'm new to recovery, and this community has made all the difference between me being drunk and staying sober.
Stay close to SR, read through old threads. If you are like many of us here, you will find a lot of stories that are almost identical to yours in many ways.

I know what you mean by aggressive people in AA. I had to shop around for a while to find one that I was comfortable with. It isn't easy and takes some time. I also had to change my approach to AA.
I don't know how many meetings you have tried, but each meeting can be very different. I would suggest trying several meetings if you can. SR is great, but being around other people with the same problem can also be very helpful. John
