Non alcoholics really don't understand. My doctor has a child who has been imprisoned due to alcohol and still offers me benzos even knowing my past addictions. This is an Ivy League educated doctor, too.
Maybe you could insist on the blood tests. Try another doc if you don't feel confident. I found with my doctor I have to be in charge - they only see me for fifteen minutes once a year - it's my health.
