I agree, I've used it before. There are a lot of honest, nice people using it on both sides.
Families may just be interested in the facilities your home offers and are prepared to pay a little extra for the comforts of a family home. Single guys travelling (not all) but typically, would be ok with cheaper accommodation and more prepared to go without little luxuries/ simpler amenities.
