One of the biggest reasons for me finally getting serous about sobriety was just that - I didn't realize how much time i was wasting on simply drinking and not being a good father. Falling asleep while trying to read a book, running out to buy more beer, sneaking out to the garage to have a beer and "relax"...etc,, All little things ( or so it seemed ) but they really add up. For me things took a dramatic turn towards the end where I NEEDED to drink just to feel normal though - that scared the crap out of me. I think you are making a very wise decision to try this now and you may find that regardless of your alcohlism or not, being sober is a good thing. Stick around and read - there is a wealth of information here.
