I would give the understanding that honesty is one of the most freeing things I have ever accomplished in life. Being honest with myself and others and in all my interactions brings a true peace to my everyday life. After so many years hiding in alcohol being honest was foreign to me. I thought I was an honest person, yet that honesty was distorted as was so much else. Learning to be truly honest began with the truth of being an alcoholic and the understanding of what honesty brings to my life came with practice. Once I wasn't protecting my addiction anymore the need for deceit was gone and I could get real. Real to me is being honest. Always and in all ways. This doesn't mean I am an open book to everyone by any means. But I am honest in my thinking, actions and speech. If I feel the need for deceit it is a red flag to me that something needs looked at….. The truth really does set you free!
