This is common advice. It gets the addict out of the system as quickly as possible. It is what AH decided to do. I understand that from an outside viewpoint it might seem like probation is the best route, but that isn't the case with most people. An addict needs to pursue recovery
for themselves. Not to please the court. being on probation often times stirs up resentment and rebellion in an addicts heart. It is always most effective, imho, to pursue recovery because you want to, not because you have to.
