Grateful that I'm an able bodied person who chooses to go to work and is able to hold a job instead of collecting unemployment or welfare or other types of assistance.

Grateful that I also have compassion and understanding of some people who for some reason are on assistance of some kind and unable to work.

Grateful that I realize that I'm only one drink away, one mental breakdown away, one too many mistakes away from being that unemployed person who just can't get the breaks and is in desperation and feeling hopeless.

Society seems to look down on people who have to collect aid instead of working. Where I see injustices and misunderstanding is able bodied people who really are trying to make it in the workforce but other workers won't help or teach them the skills they need to succeed. Or other workers who are mean to the person trying to hold a job and learn, only to feel like they're ready to collapse from the pressure at work.

Grateful for God and my sobriety to give it my best shot.
