-mentally and physically abusive-
I've seen it here too. Extremely manipulative and demeaning along with a violent short temper. I don't think it's all alcohol or drugs either. They definately don't help but there are already somekind of issues includng impulse control.
I'd say staying physically safe is the number one priority.
