Personally, I put on a front with a smile, and in words, to keep everyone at bay. For if everything appears to be OK, they're more likely to leave me alone, not ask questions, be less suspicious that I might be "up to something."
It's a veil of secrecy, to protect myself, and to hide behind. Where I can do as I please. I've used it to cover up ongoing drug use. Do you hide behind your smile to protect your use? Or are you scared to ask for help? Or are you hoping someone will rescue you? We all have different reasons...curious to hear yours.
