To reiterate: "My only point was that I would like to meet people like me who can discuss, for example, getting tenure, or negotiating professional conferences as a sober person. I don't think there is anything wrong with that."

Are you friends with anyone in the meetings? Maybe you can ask around- or if you talk during the meeting say something how you are nervous about work conferences sober etc and maybe people in the same situation will come up to you afterwards.
