As I understand it, gaining 'emotional sobriety' is how one deals with cross-addictions. I know people who put things like cigarettes, caffeine, over-eating and 'bottom-line' sex behaviours 'on the programme' (meaning abstaining one day at a time) while they worked their primary programme in AA. They didn't go to separate 12 step meetings.
I'm doing it now with cigarettes. One day at a time.
