No not a symptom of detox. The term on the streets is "Wine Chits". The progression of alcoholism causes chronic diarrhea and loss of control of the bowels. The alcohol is destroying the whole gastronic system in his body.
Of course he will 'deny' as long as he can. His alcoholism is progressing.
