I have tried AA and decided that it is not for me. I basically gave up on it about two years ago, which is when I gave up on being sober.
I find this very telling. It was working but you didn't like it so you stopped and went back to drinking. Perhaps it was that it was working that you didn't like it? Perhaps it was that you wanted to drink? I hope you decide to give sobriety another chance. I've relapsed many times and I can look back and say with no doubt or reservation that my life is much better sober.
