Tapering is a good idea in concept, but nearly impossible for a practicing alcoholic to do. I don't know about you, MeAnd, for me, it was one drink and off to the races in hell.
Tapering may be more in favor in some countries but in the US, where I live, it's most certainly not recommended. Detox can be done safely and sanely with proper medical assistance.
