Welcome to SR and congrats on deciding to stop drinking. I too would advise consulting your doctor about detoxing safely cause it can be dangerous, depending on what and how much and how often you drink.
Give AA a good try too, try several meetings before you decide if it's for you. Lots of good info here. Go to the Alcoholism forum and read the 'stickies' at the top of the page for lots of good info.
