That's one of the "old wives' tales" of addiction that I wholeheartedly believe. I started drinking at 19 and, even though it's only been a few years since then, the amount of emotional maturation that I've missed is definitely noticeable.
I keep meaning to read up on the latest research in neural plasticity, though; from what I've been hearing our brains can heal themselves better than we thought!
