Hi everyone!
Had a close call today. My brother and his girlfriend gave me a bottle of wine for my birthday - omg, was not expecting that. Gratefully, the day went pretty well, a friend I've known my whole life stopped by and ate with us. My mom cooked cornish game hens for everyone - yes, whole ones. They were delicious, along with some winter salad, wild rice stuffing, and dinner rolls. My niece was adorable as usual but in a grouchy mood due to a growth spurt (she's almost 3 months old). There wasn't any major family drama, just kind of an elephant in the room that was never acknowledged (in this case, that was a good thing).
After I left, I drove straight to the store and threw away the bottle of wine. I felt bad - it was my favorite, a shiraz. Felt wrong to let it go to waste, but it would have been a disaster to drink it and luckily I was feeling strong enough to get rid of it.
