I have never heard anyone mention any such thing in my area.
"The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking." You have a desire to stop so you meet the only requirement.
Personally, the only thing I would find disrespectful would be someone coming drunk and being disrespectful. That's obviously not you.
