That's how it was for me. I thought I could do it on my own and I tried a couple of times. When I finally began to "listen" and decided that my way was rarely the best way, I got a sponsor who had several years experience and had worked the steps herself many times. She was wonderful. She was patient and kind but a straight shooter and called me on my stuff every time. To the day I die I will be grateful for this she-devil with a heart of gold who gave me back the will to live.
