In the later stages of their disease, alcoholics can suffer withdrawal symptoms such as seizures and DTs if they abstain from drinking for even a few hours. Alcoholic seizures are scary to witness and they can lead to strokes and permanent brain damage, as was the case with my boyfriend. Sending prayers up for your brother, too.
