Home, Sweet Home - Weekenders 01 - 04 May 2020

:welcome to the Weekenders
After our sober travels for the last few weeks it may be a good time to find our ‘land’ legs for a short while and prepare for our next Sober Adventure.

Great suggestions of hill/mountain climbing were said for our next adventure.
Mentally, we will all be prepared for a hill climb, if we all but knew it.ÂÂ
We did the ‘biggie’. The sober climb. We climb with confidence, with surety, with strength.ÂÂ
https://i.postimg.cc/MKTWSX9W/692-D7...5142375407.jpg

There are many crevices along the way, some we’re ready for and others just catch us out!ÂÂ
Preparing for our climb, let’s be ready for crevices and bumps that catch us out. Be ready to shout for help, lend a hand.

Taking the correct equipment to help us manage, not just our physical wellbeing, but our mental wellbeing also.
If you feel isolated, reach out, shout out, share your thoughts.ÂÂ ÂÂ This can feel like we’re out on our own even with people around us.ÂÂ
https://i.postimg.cc/MZP2HJsF/F8-AAD...-C09-B0190.jpg
Whilst we may feel bottled up at present, let’s not bottle up our minds. Freeing our mind can help us onÂÂ ÂÂ our journey.ÂÂ
We’re all in this new climb together. We can conquer this with our own individuality and supportÂÂ ÂÂ for each other.
Let’s get climbing!ÂÂ

If this is your first weekend sober, or many, come join us for support and chat...as we know the weekends can be a struggle sometimes.
(Psst. We’re not just here to talk about the good stuff, if you’re struggling.....please shout out).ÂÂ (We’re here all week too!) :)ÂÂ

Congratulations on shotgun Captain! :)

MLD51 04-30-2020 06:41 AM

I'm in, Thanks, Mags.
Those mountain vistas are beautiful. I've always been a seashore kind of person, but I do also love mountains. Ok, I love all nature and outdoors, doesn't really matter.

Today I'm going to make decisions about the furlough I have to take. I have options on how to do it. I can take days intermittently, one per pay period, or take them all at once. If I take the days consecutively I can apply for unemployment benefits, but what a hassle. What I am not sure about is how many days we have to take. That seems to be variable. I found out yesterday we don't have to take the days off until June, so that is much better than the timeline we were originally presented with. There was a big meeting yesterday and many people complained about the whole thing so they responded and made a few changes. I'm gathering more information today and I'll decide what to do.

I'm feeling more optimistic about everything today. The past few days have been rough. I figured out that I have not been getting nearly enough good sleep and that was coloring my emotional state. I went to bed at 9 last night, went to sleep before 9:30, and slept soundly until 4:30, then was able to get another hour of sleep once I closed the window and put a pillow over my head so that the VERY LOUD bird noises were muffled. I love spring and the birds and all of that, but 4:30 is a very RUDE time to start yelling at each other, birds!! :)

biminiblue 04-30-2020 06:49 AM

Hah. Love the birds. Not at 4AM TYVM. I'm in agreement there, MLD.

Apparently getting enough sleep is the #1 most important thing for a well-functioning immune system, so early-on in this mess I decided that would be a priority. So I cannot go to bed stressed.

My "Heartland" TV-Netflix series has been really helpful for that. It's a good show to watch before bed. Horses, wilderness, pretty people, wholesome story lines. It's been good.

Inside...looking out. Stay safe, ya'll.

Home Sweet Home - thank you, fishkiller.

Great OP, Mags, thank you.

How wonderful that we have safe homes in which to stay during this COVID experience.

MLD, hope that your employer can create a better plan for your furloughs.

Bim, that view from the window is exhilarating and mesmerizing. Now that view would make isolation so much more palatable.

Have a good day, all.

Last weekend I was in the psych ward. It's good to be home. One week sober today. This time last week I was in a police cell. Things are looking up

Cityboy 04-30-2020 08:02 AM

Birds at 4:30 am? A talk with them about taking away the bird feeder sounds to be in order. LOL!

CaptainHaddock 04-30-2020 08:11 AM

Welcome freedomfries and congrats on 1 week of sobriety. Being at home sounds a lot better than the other places you mentioned!

MLD51 04-30-2020 08:29 AM

Glad you are back, freedomfries. I Hope you are coming up with a plan for continuing sobriety that will work for you. Stick close to SR.
Yes, Cityboy, I do have feeders, several, so it's partly my fault they all come hang out in my yard. For some reason they just love the trees right outside my bedroom window. I might have to have a talk with them...

I'm going to stay close to SR, attend online SMART meetings, work the SMART program. I'll see an addiction counselor when the lockdown ends

The police cell wasn't so bad. There was a mattress to sleep on and I could just be alone with my thoughts.

Psych wards are terrible though

theVman31 04-30-2020 09:15 AM

I'm in for another too Mags
Thanks for the OP
I have a friend who I do a little hiking with. He is good bit older than me 57. He is a little on the overweight side too. A heavy bloke. He says to me often small steps but consistent and always take the time to take that photo.
He's done most of the 4000m+ peaks in the alps, every peak in the pyrenees and been hiking and climbing in all parts of the world
It's humility modesty and putting one foot in front of the other.
Welcome back FFÂÂ

MLD51 04-30-2020 09:34 AM

I love the story about your hiking friend, VMan. Humility, modesty, and putting one foot in front of the other. That might just be the secret of a good life right there. Brilliant.
