Someone (probably a trombonist) once told me that the trombone was the hardest instrument to play well because it has no valves like other brass instruments. Dunno if that's true but it sounds plausable. I hope you're not still snowed in biminiblue. |
It is hard. You have to have a good ear. You can't just push the right buttons to make a note. People without good pitch should not play it. |

This clearing stuff out is harder than I think! I’ve got to be so careful I don’t put it all back again! What’s the matter with me, holding onto a pair of trousers I’ve had for 30 years and I can’t even get one leg in them :tapping: I’ve had a bit of a mad idea! Clothes that I seem to have some sort of infinity with, for some unknown reason only the universe would know the answer, I thought I might get a patch of material from each and then make some sort of patchwork throw. :dunno: Am I going crazy!:headbange |
Wow Mags, I thought the exact same thing about 10 years ago about the quilt thing!! I even got as far as cutting about 100 same sized squares and sewing about 6 together...then I stopped put it in a bag and never started it again. Left me with loads of clothes I didn't need still, a bag of clothes with square patchwork quilt sized cutouts and an unfinished quilt lol If you liken it to the ole drinking, you are in the bargaining stage with the offending clothing items..maybe if I do this I could still keep them etc etc xx |
. Pitch-related Instrument challenges, you say? I'd cast a Vote for the Theremin. See the legendary Clara Rockman play a Vacuum Tube-based Model below; as displayed at the Musical Instrument Museum. Right Hand is Pitch, and the 'mass' of Hand/Fingers near the Antenna all matter. Left Hand is Volume. It operates on proximity of grounded Body Mass. A seminal version dates from 1929. As heard on 'Good Vibrations' by The Beach Boys, and in any number of Sci Fi Film Scores. ~ 'The Swan' ~ Clara Rockmore ~ And, a contemporary Instrument... ~ 'O Solo Mio' ~ Katica Illenyi ~ I was useless on a Fretless Bass Guitar, so the sort of fixed tones on this Wheel Fiddle would be more my style. A Wheel with some inertia is cranked with the Left Hand. Accordion-like Keys choose the notes. The Old World Craftsmanship on these numerous Instruments - sorted by Continent - was really sumptin'! . https://i.postimg.cc/MTWpNtBD/Wheeled-Fiddle.jpg |
Salutations weekenders. Hope you are all mozying along through the week. One day to go and then it's a week's holidays for vman. I got some of my family coming over to stay with us (from Ireland) The plan is to get in a few days skiing. A little visiting here and there. Generally relax and enjoy. It was 20°c here this afternoon. T-shirt weather in February. Goodnight weekenders :wavey: |
Manta, you’re right! I’m struggling to let go of mere material things, literally! I’m hanging on to them at whatever cost, albeit a bargaining plea to myself. I need to use some of my sober tool box to let go! Thanks Manta x |
it is human nature to want to hold on to 'stuff' it is what separates us from chickens |
Yeah, I got enough for five families. Trying to purge but I grew up with a hoarder and it is hard. But getting easier. . . I just want beauty and peace around me at this point. Goodnight everyone! |
I ended up having frets painted on my fretless Mesa - made it a lot easier for me, intonation wise. I like the wheel fiddle tho...had an autoharp way back too D |
My son originally chose the trombone back in grade six becasue he thought it would be the easiest. |

Morning, weekenders. |
1 Attachment(s) Morning Weekenders. This morning London looks like those old books and films say it should, blanketed in fog. |
^ very atmospheric, saoutchik :) |
Sao, hopefully the fogs lifted and you’ve got sunshine same as us. Great pic though. Looks so haunting in fog. |
Thanks for the pic, Sao. That's how I imagine fictional London. |
