Urgent Need an urgent intervention to happen. Got horrendous cravings for beer. Just some beers will take this breakup discomfort away Please help me balance this irrational thing out with common sense. I致e done 7 days I知 doing well |
Hi Stew; Play the tape ahead--do you really want to throw away these sober days and start the terrible cycle again? Go take a walk, a shower, eat some ice cream, and don't give in. You are doing so well and you are going to win through to total sobriety. You do that by beating one craving at a time. It will get easier and they will lesson. Have faith and keep moving forward :grouphug: |
You dont need beer , you can live without it , its the alcoholic that wants the drink it will not help and its will screw you over , yes you have done 7 days Can you go to an AA meeting can you call your areas helpline ? |
Stewy please stay strong tonight! Oh how I remember the ferocious strengths of those cravings. THIS IS WHAT IT DOES. That's when an emergency list of things to do helped. Mine looked like this: Eat something quick Drink at least a pint of water Cry, howl, etc..... Have a hot shower -get really squeaky clean Watch a docu on end stage alcoholism Stay glued to SR Cry a bit more Scrub the bathroom / vac the entire house / wash my car....... Drink another pint of water Cry again Go to bed Play Candy Crush or some other mindless distraction Focus on the difference tomorrow morning will look with or without a drink Etc etc etc...... Oh Stewy this WILL PASS. It always does and sooner than you think. You are not alone please stay glued here. YOU ARE SAVING YOUR LIFE xxx |

I致e done 7 days I知 doing well IF some beers took the discomfort away, you wouldnt be experiencing discomfort as youve posted before, many times, about drinking to take the discomfort away. its a fact that there is going to be discomfort in early recovery. how can we grow if we dont allow it to happen? look into what SMART recovery says about coping with urges. |
Hi Stewy, You do not want to wake up tomorrow morning back on day one. I thought you had plans to spend the day with your nephew today. If not, find something else to do besides drinking. Head to a meeting, go for a walk, pick a room to organize, binge watch a show, but something that doesn't involve alcohol. You can do this. |
In addition to that emergency list, I have taken to setting a 20 min timer when I get a craving. Just take a 20min timeout and reassess how you feel. |
Lots of good suggestions here already Stewy, drinking would be this single worst decision you could make right now. Go back and read the threads you started here last week and weeks prior for a reminder of exactly where “some beers” will take you. Make no mistake...choosing to drink even one sip will take you right back where you were. |
(((((Stewy)))) You are doing well. These emotions are normal in early sobriety and recovery. We must feel them in order to work through them. They WILL NOT last forever; I promise you. Don't give in to the voice of your AV who cares NOTHING for you. Beer is not the answer Any 'release' is temporary and incomplete and, in the end, will only add to your anxiety and sadness. |

Stay with us, Stewy. We care about you. |
feeling bad won't kill you, Stewie. you can do this, the bad stuff doesn't last :grouphug: please post, let us know how you are doing. |
beer is what CAUSES the craving. urges pass, stewy....just like any other thought. you have to learn to ride it out, not immediately reach for something to make it stop. allow it to pass........ |
No, Stewy - don't drink. It's just an urge. It's not going to hurt you. It will pass. Distract yourself in any way you can. Think of how you will feel tomorrow when you've resisted this craving and wake up to Day 8. You've completed a week. Awesome. Take one minute, one day at a time. There will be tough times, but you can power through them. Hang in there Stewy! |
Drinking will not bring her back,it will only bring you down another 'rung'...You were wrong about her. Just as you're wrong about beer helping. watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eyDqDLUJ9wc |
In order to grow as a person you need to feel your feelings. Beer won't fix a damn thing. Hang in there. It will pass. Don't do anything you will regret....like drink. |
Hey,stew..you and a couple others around here know about what 'life' dealt me this past week. The thought of a 'few' obviously crossed my mind. I'm a bit back to reality now,but I was numb(like in a dream),so numb the day after my event happened, I tried to pick a losing fight and planned on not even fighting this huge guy back(I'm not small and know how to handle myself). I wanted to feel some pain though and drinking wasn't going to happen,so I figured.."I'll get this big dude to beat the hell outta me and not swing back." Turns out this guy(stranger to me) was one of the nicests guys. He sat me down and talked to me. This is a true story,btw..Alcohol wouldn't have had that sincere conversation with me. It would have beat my ass! |
Hey everyone, thanks so much for the contributions. I知 still here, I知 at home, the craving is still there just lingering on and on. Had a pint of water and something to eat. I知 thinking in the next couple of hours I知 going to get tired and sleep will be my friend tonight I知 sure of it This is one hell of a rough ride. It痴 quitting two things at once- beer and contacting my ex- must stay no contact and must stay off beer else she値l win and I値l continue an endless spiral to nothing Drink does not define me- I知 better than that |
Stewy, you're doing really well! I'm so glad you posted here before drinking and that you were strong and got through the craving! Way to go! Rest well, and hopefully tomorrow will be an easier day. |
