Day 6 - I won!

I woke up this morning and decided to take control of my day.. No more allowing the symptoms, it was MY DAY.

I dusted off my hiking gear and headed for the mountains of North Wales. I managed to summit Mt Snowdon. It was a lot harder than it used to be in my Military days and took three times as long. I got there.

I was exhausted, tired, out of breath, aching..... but they were MY symptoms and not those of alcohol withdrawal.

Someone mention exercise on another post as a good therapy. They could not have been more right.

A small victory for me, the battle is long. I will win.

Woohoo! You will win. Well done. Great job on 6 days, also.

Nice one Bertie, great attitude.

Did you go via Crib Goch, that'd take your mind off drinking!?

Snowdon is beautiful and well done :)

I didn't dare try Crib Goch...felt a little to 'wobbly' to risk it.

After the euphoria of the walk wore off, the withdrawal symtom's did return. When do they stop?

Its different for everyone, Berty....a week you should generally be feeling better tho...

you're sure you're just not cream crackered from the climb?

Possibly..... It's difficult to differentiate between normal life and alcoholic life when the latter has been so prominent for so long I guess.

Stay sober and the withdrawals will clear eventually.

Exercise has been a great help for me, and I do all sorts of things from
hiking to yoga to running and weight lifting.

I suggest high-quality whole-food diet, with plenty of organic produce,
a good multi-vitamin, stay well-hydrated, and plenty of sleep / low stress
time. Your body and mind need healing time.

I also regularly meditate now--nothing formal, just time alone with my
thoughts and feelings which bubble up quite a bit since I quit.
I used to drink to drown them out. Now I welcome them.

Great job on that hike! I've always wanted to hike in Wales.
So beautiful. . .

"cream crackered"? Never heard this phrase, but definitely smiling. May steal this.
