The pocket park is beautiful, Courage. Reminds me a little of the park where my husband and I were married. It was a little patch of green with a water feature and was sort of plopped down in the middle of some skyscrapers downtown. :) |

1 Attachment(s) These are some of the things that amaze me. The pic is Abell 1689 taken with the Hubble telescope. Each cluster of light is an entire galaxy as big or bigger than our Milky way. The light you see is over 2 billion years old. |

It's wonderful how we intersect here. Aellyce loves the swamps and she posts a picture of mist rising in a swamp -- I walk down 1st Avenue on a foggy night. The coincidence of our experiences makes me investigate fog, and I learn about foghorns. High frequency, short-wavelength sounds travel poorly in fog -- the waves get lost bouncing back and forth against all the tiny droplets of moisture in the fog. Hence, the low voices of foghorns: |

I was out walking in a very hard rainstorm tonight. It reminded me of when I've lived places with monsoon seasons. A good monsoon is a wonderful thing. |
Courage, I was out walking during the same rainstorm (I think) yesterday :) When I was in college, I was required to take a Meteorology class, which totally captured and fascinated me. Subsequently, I decided to take a couple more semesters in that field just out of curiosity. (Oh, and I had a crush on one of the young instructors giving the classes :08:) That "crush" on Meteorology led into a few years of fascination with Chaos Theory, Dynamical Systems, and mathematical model design to study the (infamously unpredictable nature of the) weather. I seriously considered those as a career choice for a while. Finally did not; it was just a rather short love affair, but I still like to read and learn about it as a lay person. This is for a more meditative take, talking about a storm on a sunny day :) |
