When do you stop becoming a new comer?! Just a question, when do you think you are past the new comer stage here and in AA, six months sober and I still feel like a new comer lol |
First, congratulations on 6 months! That's awesome! Why do you think you still feel like a newcomer? |
hey blue, i have 13 years in, and i want to stay stupid! always be a newcomer (stay humble) and best wishes on your journey |
5 years here, I want to stay a newcomer, too! |
Hmmm... Good Question. Congratulations on 6 months from a newcomer at heart! |
6 years and still a newcomer. I know more than I did and less than I should. Congrats on 6 month and never stop learning |
I'm comfortable here, so I stay here. Congrats on 6 months. |

Lol I guess I feel a newcomer coz im still learning :) yeah i think I'd like to stay humble man, definately I dont ever want to feel like ive "cracked" it because being over complacency can lead to relapse. |
When you have more posts than Wolfie? |
Well, I'm not in AA, but I still hang out in the Newcomers forum here. :) |
The day you leave this earth sober..... |
AA seems to really embrace those under 30 days and for the right reason, they are the most likely to relapse again. I still learn a lot from attending those meetings on occasion, I still feel like a newbie. I feel even more like a newbie when they have me run those meetings from time to time. I never know what to say and am ultimately surprised what comes out of my mouth in those meetings. |
It depends upon the day and the situation. No, I don't always feel like a newcomer any longer. However, when I am around some of my friends in NA who have 20-35 years clean... yeah, I feel a bit more like a newcomer. Not in a "less than" sort of way, but these are the guys I go to who have experience with living life clean and with recovery for a long period of time. I still consider myself to be in early recovery, just the back half of it... ;) |
imo, theres newcomers to aa then theres newcomers to recovery. not new to aa here but still new to recovery. |
Congratulations! In a sense I'm always new because I've become teachable. 10 months and not stupid just because I don't know it all...who does. |
Really important to stay humble in recovery, the moment we think we know it all is when the ego kicks back in, and we all know where the ego can take us right?! |
I like coming to the newcomers section as it reminds me how far I've come and the nightmare i'd face if I ever started drinking again. So for me, it doesn't matter how much time I have under my belt, this is the section I like and the section that works for me. |
Great question Blueberry and I love the responses. The Buddhists have something like reverence for what they call "Beginner's Mind." |
I'm still a newcomer :) D |
