I absolutely do want the help!

Day 2, going strong. It's my anniversary today and I am going out with the wife. Already told her I am not drinking so that should help with accountability but will still be a tempting situation. I have confidence I can do it!

A belated welcome Rob :)

The best advice I can give you is to put your recovery first, and to give it your absolute all - you'll get back exactly what you put in :)

Day 4 in the books. Feeling great but I have this underlying fear about relapsing in the future. Very weird feeling.

Great job on day 4
Any thoughts about future alcohol consumption come from the AV , the addiction itself trying to reinstate itself. The best mindset to adopt to combat those kinds of thoughts is to stay present, use the idea that we can only actually 'be' and act in the immediate present , the now.
Like literally right now. Right now my resolve in my decision to not drink is not in question, I right now will not act to put a drink in my mouth. And you know what, my resolve in this 'now' is just as strong. A week , month or year in the future has no bearing on how I will act Now. Carry the resolve through all the Nows I will experience and I will be in that future now with the same resolve.
Maybe a little wonky mindset to explain and think through, but battling the AV is really a mind game in a good way and a very doable way.
You got through all the Nows that made up the last days , just keep that resolve going forward , let all those Nows add up. You got this, stay in the now, and keep trucking , the Nows that will be 2018 can't affect tonight or tomorrow , no need to worry about them now, yeah?

Very good info! Thanks! And day 5 begins on a good note! Even this mini diary of posting helps a ton!

Hi and welcome,

It is amazing that you want to stop drinking for all the right reasons.

If you need to see a Dr. Do it.

Otherwise, sounds like you can make it 2 weeks without drinking.

That means you can get through the withdrawals on your own.

But, then the hard stuff begins. The anxiety. The..I could use a drink phase.

The first month of sobriety was hell on earth. Passing up ice cold beer, shots of tequila was tough. The anxiety was maddening. I ate when I craved. I ate every 2 hours. Stayed hydrated. Slept a lot.

It got easier each day. I wanted to be clean.

I do BJJ and work out a bit. Being clean is the only way to go.

Be proud of sobriety. Being a drunk is no way to go through life.

Alcohol is poisen.
