Well, after the tornado passed (15-20min.) I took a soul searching walk, jammin' 7/12/89 Robert F. Kennedy Stadium ... Rain hitting me hard. Tears streaming so the rain worked out LoL. I aimlessly ended up at the counter of the liquor store across the street w\a 750ml bottle of berriangers white zin (which BTW the snob in me doesn't even consider real wine) Paid for it bought a corkscrew & went on my way. Knowing mom wouldn't go for that; I went to one of my old haunts; the 15th green of the "party" course. After much fighting w\ the corkscrew; been 15+ yrs I've even opened wine, opened the "wannabe" wine. Sat there a few minutes staring at it then started pouring it out "speaking" to my friend. Until the bottle was empty. Cried a little more, walked to the trash can threw out the bottle & corkscrew. I knew at the counter I was safe cause I'd never drink that swile haha But she loved it .. Dennis Oh, the hours I've spent inside the Coliseum Dodging lions and wastin' time Oh, those mighty kings of the jungle I can hardly stand to see 'em Well, it sure has been a long hard ride Train wheels runnin' through the back of my memory When I ran on the hilltop following a pack of wild geese Someday, life will be sweet like a rhapsody When I paint my masterpiece My name is August West, and I love my Pearly Baker best more than my wine. More than my wine - more than my maker, though he's no friend of mine. |
Good for you Dennis, one minute at a time. BE WELL:You_Rock_ |
I was scared for a minute but you done great Dennis you done great (((((AW))))) |
good job thats a good victory! |
Rain comes in handy sometimes. Really proud of you for tossing the sub-par wine and also for taking a chance and talking about your feelings. Incredibly brave, Dennis. I'm so sorry for your loss. Xoxo |
Very relieved to hear you poured it out Dennis!! :) |
Thanx All; When I saw the bottle @ the store I knew I was good :) My name is August West, and I love my Pearly Baker best more than my wine. More than my wine - more than my maker, though he's no friend of mine. |
I'm glad you poured it out, but I'm a little worried you bought it in the first place Dennis. do you think that may happen again? D |
Dennis, we all care. :) Very glad you dumped it, but I agree with Dee - it was a bit close for comfort. Happy you triumphed over the temptation this time. |

Interesting post with a happy ending. I agree with what Dee mentioned, it sounds like your are flirting with disaster a bit. Stay strong friend. |

I would like to lend my support to this thread by saying congrats on dumping it out...... And Levon Helm sings that song the best. |
Can't say, I don't know what the future holds Dee; I thought about likely scenarios and how I might respond to them...when something did come up, I was ready...or at least readier than I would be going in cold :) D |

I don't see him fronting as much as filing in. Bobby\Phil I think will be fronting. But like said I have issues w\ the way this has all played out & feel Garcia himself would be sickened & angered by the way John Kadlecik was burned in the whole process just to sell more tickets @higher prices. On that note I'm sure it will smoke b\c after seeing Furthur its clear bobby\phil still gel so well .. Dennis |
Having a plan of recovery whether its Aa Smart or Lifering etc having a plan for emergencies to help you before you make any decisions to drink Willpower is not going to keep you sober and considering what has happened recently Dennis i really think a plan would benefit you massively Do you read books on recovery ? So nope I might hit one of the pay per view; but I have some serious issues w\ the circus things have turned into. Dennis I have seen Trey with his band and with phish and from what I have read it seems like a nice fit for this tour. I am sure it is of course a ticket thing since it always in the end is about the money. Still would be nice to see in person. |
Glad the only wetness came from the rain. Gotta steer clear of the counters, not that that is news, just scary when it gets that close. Last show I saw was in Pittsburgh, not sure of the year , before I was married so late 80's probably. Couldn't even finish, it was indoors we sat in the rafters and the acoustics and my fried brain started freakin me out, not even sure how I got out of the city, don't miss that aspect. But I do miss the outdoor shows , feeling the show, nothing like live music. Almost had a chance to see Furthur at Red Rocks recently , but last minute stuff screwed the pooch. Hopefully I'll get another shot. |
