Staying quit , after the physical dependence is broken, maybe a few days after all the alcohol is metabolized, is all about mindset. You aren't depriving yourself of a good positive thing, you are choosing to not be affected negatively by consuming alcohol. Once the "line" is crossed , there are literally no positive aspects of drinking. The sensation of intoxicating becomes a fleeting short lived experience that only leads to more immediate consumption and then being left with the aftermath, over and over . I found I wasn't giving up the "buzz" , I was choosing to live without the aftermath, the inevitable aftermath . The positive feelings of drinking of anticipating the buzz was the addiction "talking" , the enjoyment was long gone , the feeling so fleeting that it really could not be captured , it was like chasing a lie . All that was left chasing it time and time again was the aftermath.
Give up the aftermath, choose to not burden your life with it. Make alcohol the smallest part of your life as possible, there is so much more to life.
Choose "giving up the aftermath" , be healthier and Give yourself the best chance at happiness, the beach will still be there, go enjoy it unencumbered !

I wasn't even jealous of people who were satisfied with one or two, I was really more jealous of the people who didn't need alcohol at all.

These people would:

Have a crappy day at work and not drink.
Have a great day at work and not drink.
Arrive at the hotel on vacation and not drink.
They didn't even really think about drinking, it just wasn't part of their evenings.

It wasn't so much that they didn't drink, it was all about the NEED. They did not automatically think, "Well, I got to the hotel, now I need to get drunk and hopefully as quickly as possible."

They didn't need to drink. And to think that was available to me too the whole time.
