Day 1 again!!!

It's been about a year and a 1/2 since I last signed in. I reached day 28 and decided I could manage my drinking - how wrong I was. So I'm trying again after spending the past 12 months lying to myself about my drinking. I'm determined to stay sober this time

Welcome back and use that experience! You never have to do THAT again!

Zebra1275 02-28-2015 05:57 AM

So what are you going to do different this time?

Doing the same things over and over and expecting different results doesn't work.

Welcome back!

Hi and welcome back.
This getting and STAYING sober is an experience we need to remember for the time we think “it wasn’t that bad.” It is our “brain” that has been soaked on alcohol speaking and it wants more of the poison that’s killing us mentally and emotionally then physically.

The so called simple way to short circuit this thinking is to not drink one day at a time in a row.
After a short period we WORK on the reasons we drink which requires a scary word CHANGE which we naturally run terrified from and keep repeating the same old same old.
The old fashioned way to start to defeat this deadly baggage we carry is to get honest with ourselves about OUR drinking and ACCEPT that we cannot drink in safety one day at a time in a row.

It’s that simple, didn’t say always easy.

BE WELL

Welcome back Gracie, we have all been there so totally understand what you are going through.. You've made a great decision... Stay close to SR & you'll never have a day 1 again.

Welcome back Gracie! Have also thought I could manage my drinking and that didn't work out well for me either.
You can use this experience to help move your sobriety forward.

Hi Gracie, I'm glad you are back and prepared to deal with your situation, it takes a brave person to admit we have a problem and face it head on, well done.

Take a deep breath and know that you never have to feel like that again! Actually it is pretty fantastic to realize you never have to drink again.

Welcome back Gracie!!

What's the plan to stay Sober? because I would always have great intentions and then in another few weeks, my mind would convince me in isolation that again I could manage a drink, and I'd forget my resolve a few weeks ago.

Support for me was key, even checking in daily with SR will keep your mind focused on the job at hand, others use meetings, but whatever it is, something to counteract your own mind, a second opinion on things, something to short circuit your own thoughts!!

You can do this!! :)

Thank you for your replies, SR is a great support. I'm going to my very first AA meeting tonight. I'm quite nervous but hopefully it will help.

I walked through the SR door after about a year and a half of trying to prove to myself I could 'handle it' after 5 months of sobriety.

Sometimes it takes us some further experimentation to provide ourselves with sufficient evidence to come to believe....

Welcome back. You can do this.

Champagnecharli 03-01-2015 06:32 AM

Day one here aswell :) going to start writing a list of triggers and avoid these situations to start with... Anyone got any other ideas to prepair for the next craving?

tonib77 03-01-2015 06:48 AM

How about using exercise? Everytime we decide we want to drink we exercise first.. pretty sure after a good sweat are minds will be off booze for a moment.. any other suggestions?
