You could post here while you are doing it- stay close and we' ll talk you though if you're struggling.

If you are concerned about - you should be from your comment - make sure someone else is with you who understands the issue. Dump out everything you can find. Make it a farewell ceremony if you want. But make it a happy one.

Early in I had a guy come home with me to dump out some beers I found in the garage. I didn't think I needed anyone there but it was good I had someone. You never know how weak you'll be until it's too late.

Be prepared to find things for six months if you were anything like me. I hid bottles from myself.

That's a toughie. Maybe take an accountability friend?

Dump, dump, dump it all!

I just threw out mine this past Sunday. I did hesitate, and I'm not sure why, as I am committed to quitting. Afterward however, it was gone and it felt good!

When I was newly sober I got into a big argument with my brother who was still using at the time. In a rage he took a bottle with about 50 valiums (one of our favorite drugs at the time), and threw it out the car window. Despite the fact that I knew I wouldn't have ever touched them, it killed me to see him do that. I share this because I was as baffled about my feelings with that, as you sound regarding cleaning out your stash.

It does sound to me though that your reluctance MIGHT possibly be connected to an unconscious (possibly even conscious) reservation you have regarding this not drinking thing. I think getting rid of it will be an uncomfortable act that will only strengthen your resolve. I say be happy that this is a tough thing to do, yet something you will do anyway! We don't grow a whole lot doing things that come easy. It's the challenging ones that stretch us....

I cant thank y'all enough for the support and understanding.

I think I was just surprised at how much of an internal struggle I was having and couldn't reconcile it with my absolute commitment to sobriety.

I'm feeling better about it now and know it's a positive and empowering thing.

Two weeks and counting!! :)

Congratulations on two weeks, brynn.

Quick update: I did it!! It's gone...all of it! ( at least all I could remember ). I always bought in bulk "just in case" !!

Probably poured out over $200 worth of booze and some pills!

I was really tempted to get rid of my partners booze but figured that would be taking it a little too far!

Aiko 12-19-2014 01:48 PM

Congrats Bryn :)
It is hard to take that step, you been very strong!!!

But if you can tell your partner not to drink at home and not to have booze around you, out of care should understand it. And you will need the support....... You need to talk to your partner to try to avoid drinking near you at least for a while...

And you need to avoid situations... make excuses and if they push you Get Out.
You won the first battle but just begins...

Well done!!! :) XO

Fantastic! Glad you dumped it. I know I wouldn't have stood a chance with it in the house. I gave it all away. I don't even allow NyQuil, Mouthwash, or Vanilla in the house! Completely dry house.
