This morning...

I woke up with a voice that said "you're done." I am 63 and have had trouble with alcoholism since my late 20s. I also have PTSD. I found SR and am just reaching out for experience, strength and hope. Thank you!

Welcome, and we're here to offer support.

biminiblue 11-26-2014 09:23 AM

Welcome. I'm glad you're done. :)

Regret

Thank you! I am struggling with regret and I don't know how to forgive myself and move on. The voice in my head just keeps going over and over all of the mistakes I have made. They overpower the positive things I have done.

Hey beach20- Welcome!

This morning is the perfect time to be "done." This site offers a lot of support, which can help with just that.

We all have regrets, but I think as you move forward in your goals of being 'done,' the positive stuff will start to overshadow your regrets.

I look forward to seeing you around in here.

Welcome! We all have regrets but the past is the past. It's time to write a new future.

biminiblue 11-26-2014 10:31 AM

Beach, you cannot unring the bell, as they say.

What you can do is move forward and not add any more negatives to your story.

I did a lot of things of which I am not proud, but I don't do them any more. If I didn't learn from those mistakes, that would be a lot worse, right?

IOAA2 11-26-2014 11:02 AM

Hi.
I was shown that we have choices in sobriety and the past is over. I don’t have to repeat it under the influence of alcohol.
I prefer to have a more healthy mind by not drinking one day at a time in a row.
It may take time but things usually work if we let them.

BE WELL

beach20 11-26-2014 11:09 AM

So grateful

for your wise responses. I am going to remember them because if I don't, I will drink over the past and continue the cycle. Endlessly berating myself has not proven to be useful. :tyou

Welcome beach! I've had that voice too. It's a good start when you hear "I'm done" instead of "More".

Hello beach.
As a newbie to this forum with many a failed attempt at sobriety I've found this forum to be a tower of strength, support, help and encouragement.

Even just noodling around reading old posts I find helpful and reassuring.

"I'm Done" sounds a fantastic start to me :c014:

Welcome Beach :)

SR really helped me turn my life around. Coming here daily still reminds me of how bad it was and what I need to do to stay sober :)

glad you found us :)

Welcome, beach!

JanieJ 11-26-2014 02:53 PM

Welcome Beach. I had a similar voice too.

Anyone who has a drinking past has regrets, I think. I know I do.

Could I suggest that AA might be helpful for you as a good way of working on them ?

Look around, there are many experiences here which you will find helpful, and tons of support.

beach20 11-26-2014 03:11 PM

Oh yes, I am willing

to do what it takes...go back to AA, Celebrate Recovery and SR.
I relapsed four years ago and it took losing nearly everything for me to hear that voice.

Soberwolf 11-26-2014 04:16 PM

Well done beach
