I talk to myself out loud....how about you??? Before I posted this hit King Google to check and see if my sanity was more off kilter than I suspect. I was glad to read this..... Talking with yourself not only relieves the loneliness, it may also make you smarter. It helps you clarify your thoughts, tend to what’s important and firm up any decisions you’re contemplating. There’s just one proviso: You become smarter only if you speak respectfully to yourself. Whew! :) When I drank, I believe I did this more - but really not certain. Regardless, I do talk out loud to myself. I think it does help clarify things, and I am by myself frequently/daily at certain times. By nature, I am a gregarious individual and simply like to talk - for better or worse. So, though I'd throw this out to the group: Do you have chat's with yourself, do you find it healthy and has talking aloud / alone increased, decreased or stayed consistent after sobriety????? Friend I confided in stated as long as I wasn't hearing responses I was probably normal :) YOU>>???? Flyn |
I never talk to myself. Just ask my cat. |

I never talk to myself out loud but the voices in my head do! Seriously, yeah, I do. |
I only find myself talking to myself when im either cussing out the car that just cut me off while driving, watching a football game, or when I see a ridiculous commercial that strikes a nerve and I just have to blurt out something! LOL. Im always alone when these things happen so I never get embarrassed, but most of the time they are not positive statements so Im not sure im getting any smarter. LOL. |
OMG, I am a chatter box! I talk to myself like all the time! |
I talk to my dogs and cats. Does that count? ;) |
Absolutely. Always have. Not sure if it's more often now that im sober. I also work pretty much alone most days out of the week, so it's either singing to ones self or just chatting away to me and the trees. All positive. |
I talk to myself out loud CONSTANTLY!!! :P I'm sure my surrounding co-workers think I'm a nut job! Unfortunately, I also do a tonnnnnnnn of negative self talk :( Pretty mean to myself actually. Something I need to work on big time. Stuck in the bad habit. |

I used to think it was the case of the drunks but I still do it and I think I do it more now then when I drank! I ask my cat how her day was and when she meows I take that as conversation and we have a chat! MY BF thinks I am crazy!

Would you say the things you say to yourself to a friend or one of us? Talk to yourself as if you were helping a friend in a bad place or encouraging someone here on SR. It helps to break the habit. |

Although I am probably actually my own worst enemy. |

I talk to myself too. More often than not to give me a little encouragement like: Come on, let's do it! |

Omg - I would NEVER speak to another human being the way I speak to myself. Speak and treat yourself as though you would treat a friend. |
all the time. I think it probably started when I was a child... being an only child often meant talking to myself or talking on behalf of make-believe characters in my make-believe worlds.... One interesting thing is becoming more aware of WHAT I'm saying to myself. Both out loud and in my head.... Sometimes without even paying attention, the words and the messages are unnecessarily critical, even kind of cruel. |
i am just thinking about starting up a fellowship of men and women who talk to themselves how can we ever stop this ? : ) |

I just googled talking to yourself and it says it is healthy as long as it is in a positive manner. "Whether you’re living by yourself or living with others, you’re always living with yourself. So don’t leave yourself out of the equation." Where every you go, there you are! |
