Staying Sober In The Beginning

I've never joined a website like this before. I guess it's called a forum. Anyway, I've been a chronic relapser since I joined the program and I'm getting tired of it. Please, no more desire chips!!! I picked up another one today...hopefully my last. I'm trying several different things to help me in my early sobriety and this is one of them. Please let me know what worked for you. I'm willing to try anything at this point.

Hi and welcome seriouslysober :)

I think just joining here helped me. It was a revelation to know that others understood and that others supported me and wanted me to stay sober.

why not check out our Class of September support thread too?

Welcome Seriously. Not giving up helped me to finally stop. I relapsed more times than I care to remember. Along with not giving up, I finally realized deep down to my core that I could no longer drink with control. With acceptance, I was able to move to preferring sobriety more than I preferred drinking.

But the first few weeks I basically refused to give in to the cravings. When I didn't give in, they diminished greatly in 2-3 weeks.

Are you actively working the Steps? I don't use AA, but most AA members on this site are pretty adamant about the need to work the Steps rather than just attending meetings.

Whatever you do, stick around this site; you will find support an understanding here.

One chronic relapser to another....

What I'm trying to do differently this time is put AA and my recovery 1st. As the honest to god, #1 priority in my life.

Other times, I've made it 2nd or 3rd priority, but usually put things like relationships, friendships, work, fitness before sobriety.

Now, I'm going to at least a meeting every single day, and putting recovery as my honest #1 priority. Everything else comes after.

So far it's worked but I'm only 10 days in. Feeling fantastic & determined though.

Good luck!!
