Mood swings
 
Hey everyone.am 38 days sober and my moods are unpredictable.i can become easily irritated. Does this improve?

Yes it gets better. I remember evening out quite a bit around 3 months sober. I had also forgotten that I had mood swings when I was drinking, too. I just drowned them with bourbon!

It should.

Are you doing anything to cope with what irritates you, with what makes you angry? Sobriety does bring with it a leveling of our emotions. But we have to learn effective ways to deal with the every day ups and downs that everyone faces, without thinking we have to drink over them.

At two months I felt pretty good. At three months I was a wreck... Nearing six months and I've been feeling pretty balanced. Mood swings don't seem nearly as dramatic. Mindfulness and meditation have been key for me. My life has become a series of mental exercises. I find I have to be vigilant about NOT letting challenging emotions lead to circular negative thinking.
