Oh god, I thought I was going nuts! All part of alcoholism? . I do want help now. I dont want to be praying for disaster every day. |
oh you are going nuts ... but it will be ok... just do what you know you need to do. |
AnimalNurse, First of all you are never too far gone. On your original post, I see nothing about a sponsor or working the steps. If you are in AA, meetings are NOT enough. You need to work the steps. So do you have a sponsor? What step are you on? |

Try meditation, yoga, the beach, or even Antabuse it works. |

Is weird.but I feel like I'm praying for something really bad to happen while I'm drinking. Something so catastrophic that it would be impossible to continue.how awful and blasphemous is that :( |
antabuse is a Rx pill that interferes with the metabolism of alcohol and makes you feel sick when you drink. |
it is NOT a good time. i dont know that i have ever met anyone that is "comfortable" in the first few meetings ... no one hopes to end up there - give it time and give it a chance ... maybe it isnt for you but you at least need to give it a chance - i was going to quote dr seuss green eggs and ham here but i dont know if that reference is known in Auckland. |
I dunno if it's part of alcopholism or not but I certainly felt powerless...I felt if I ended up in hospital or something I might get help... of course I had many such 'opportunities' in the years to come - and was always too frightened to let people know the real truth... we alcoholics are a contrary bunch :) D |
You can do anything you want to. For me it was self realization I did not use AA just a realization that it was life or death, And I chose to live drinking is not living its drowning and for me I needed to focus on myself not listening to everyone else. Now I think AA would be ok for me for activity reasons but I believe its inside of you. I quit cold turkey after I was drinking atleast a liter a day. Just took a 2 months vacation slept off the shakes and through myself into juicing, working out eating healthy yoga meditation. any info you need you can find on youtube. I used guided meditation to help myself fall asleep because of Insomnia. I just celebrated 1 year and Im a bartender and a shot girl soif I can do so can you. Stick with it. |
Just a reminder we have a medical advice rule here. Please do share your experience - but please don't recommend meds here. Antabuse is not suitable for everyone, but if you're interested ask your Dr, AN. |

it's a general reminder. D |
Re Antabuse Ask your doc about antabuse, I thought it was great. but that's my opinion I only stopped taking it because of the cost no insurance. that was 4 years ago. This time when I really truly wanted to Quit I did it with will power. Antabuse worked for me because it took away the option to drink because you will get sick if you drink on it. I was working in a bar where they encouraged drinking. Try whatever you believe will work for you everyone is different. |
AN when do you drink? Are you going out and buying the stuff or going to bars? Have you got alcohol available to you now? I had to create an alternative way of doing things for a long while. |
The fact that you want to stop and you realize you have a problem is an awesome first step. I think you'll find most of us tried on numerous occasions to stop and failed miserably (I sure did). The key is pulling yourself up off the mat and getting back into the fight....you can do this!! You'll find different things work for different people...you need to find what works for you....you'll get tons of support here. |
i've had hundreds of day 1's and day 0's... keep trying you WILL succeed eventually |
you're not too far gone - because you're still here.... admitting to your weakness and looking for help from a power greater than yourself. How often are you going to meetings? How much are you reading the Big Book? How much are you on here? Maybe you can step up some of all of the above... Do you have a sponsor? If not - is there anyone at your home group you've ever felt "maybe they could be a good sponsor for me"? If so -can you get there TODAY and pull that person aside and ask them to be your sponsor? Are you working the steps or just plunking your butt in the seat? Ask yourself these questions and seek the honest answers.... see what more you can be doing.... ask where you're just 'going through the motions'... and KEEP ON GIVING IT YOUR ALL!! Don't get discouraged.... I think nearly ALL of us have had way more Day Zero's than we ever thought or hoped we would. :ring |
Keep on trying xxxx |
