welcome shane

Finding this site is a great first step, there are lots of supportive people here that know what it is you are going through.

Read through all the forums, ask ,post, check in often

My first day here someone mentioned Rational Recovery and AVRT, I googled the terms went to their website and took their free crash course. I found it tremendously helpful , especially in the early going.

wish you well and hope to see you around

Hello and welcome. You'll find lots of support here from people who have successfuly quit, and those still struggling.

What works for me, and I was a bad drunk, is to remember how I felt after drinking. The following day, the fear anxiety and remorse. And those terrible hangovers.
I could never have just one or two. It was all or nothing for me.
It took me a long time to quit. But, I drank like an alcoholic since the first time I picked it up at fourteen. So I had to learn how not to drink. Support groups help many, maybe you should give one a try.

Best to you and keep on posting.

Thanks everyone and I know and hate the next day the anxiety the yelling at myself the feeling of guilt and remorse the self loathing I can't stand it anymore it's all so love hate and just an awful thing I just want to fast forward to clarity and an untroubled mind

Welcome Shane!! Day 1 is so hard but you can do it. Stick close around here, hit up an AA meeting if you are willing, do whatever it takes. You got this!

shane35x 12-02-2013 03:02 PM

I don't have huge support most people down play problem drinking I drink daily and it's taking from me I don't drink socially I don't go to bars I have never been in trouble with work or the law I don't drink during the day and I won't drink and drive but I use it as a crutch to relieve stress I work out and am very active but I know it will kill me eventually I don't like the hold it has on me some say I don't have a problem but I know I do I am going to try aa and see how that fits I am just trying to reach out because I know I need help

Dee74 12-02-2013 03:03 PM

I hope you'll find AA is a good fit for you Shane :)

Finished day 1 fine feeling good day 2 fresh stress my daughters and their mother are driving me crazy my wife calls me at work yelling because our teenager won't listen like I don't know that already I did not get upset I just need to tell them to not burden me with every little detail of their day to day drama it's too stressful right now oh well let's get day 2 done

Toffee1 12-03-2013 10:21 AM

Good luck on day 2. Stay focused on what you want to achieve. I would also recommend googling AVRT and do their short crash course ,it is certainly helping me. Also remember it is so much easier to handle stress without a hangover!! Keep up the good work

shane35x 12-04-2013 06:07 AM

Thanks for the avrt advice it helped a lot I really relate to that template of recovery day three has great I know once I blow through the rest of this week and stay focused I can beat this thing it won't be easy but nothing worth having is thanks guys
