Welcome to SR Amy :)
As you've already seen, you'll find a lot of support here.

Please do find another doctor - and please be honest with them.

Don't worry about social services...from what you've told us, your record is clean...doctors see mothers with alcohol problems in their surgeries every day...don't let fears hold you back.

Have you though of a recovery programme like AA or something similar?
D

First, doctors are confidential. Second, they are worth contacting. I was going to do it on my own but had to contact the doctor bc of surging blood pressure (I have very high blood pressure anyway) and constant shaking. She wanted to put me on tranquilizers and I refused because I wasn't aware either that no one would find out (I'm graduating from dental school this year) and didn't want it on any paperwork bc who would want to come to a dentist that's a drunk.

I think that was a pretty big mistake because I was scared for 4 days (lasted 6). Medication may have made it easier. SHe put me on meds after anyway for the cravings. Now I'm not worried at all. I know nobody can find out. It is completely confidential...and better to get help than suffer through.

Amy
Welcome to the board. You have friends here who will always listen to you.
Always bear in mind that a heck of a lot of people on this forum (including me)
come from the place you are in right now, and that your life will change radically
with sobriety. Please try to find another doc. and if possible an addiction specialist
(even if you have to go to another town for the day!). Wishing you strength and
peace.

Amy, I hope you're still around. I wish I'd seen this when you first posted.
(Saphie, thanks for bumping.)

I felt just like you many, many times. I didn't have the sense at your age to try and stop. I kept going, and destroyed my life with my drinking. It got worse over the years, and I ended up with legal problems & all sorts of other hell. It never needed to turn out that way - and you don't ever have to let it get to that point.

I know how hard it is, but it's even harder trying to live the way you have been. It's sucking the life out of you and making everything much more of a challenge than it actually is. I hope you will get some medical advice to help you with withdrawal, especially so you can sleep. I had a hard time in the beginning too, but after awhile it all settles down and the anxiety lessens. Give yourself a chance to see what life can be like without getting numb all the time - and please keep talking to us - you aren't alone as long as you keep reaching out. You're among friends, and we have all been there.

i couldnt bare it

I have told 2 drifferent doctors about my struggle with drugs and alcohol and nothing was ever said about my child. If you get arrested for drugs, then I think DHR finds out. I know how you feel. Good luck.

Tribal is right thats why you sign that HIPPA federal law patient confidentaility form at EVERY office visit you go to. They can not divulge any information that you tell them or it breaks Dr. patient confidentiallity.

The only time they can break that is if you DIRECTLY tell them you want to hurt the kids or yourself, then they HAVE to report it, otherwise they can not tell anyone, not even a family member without your SIGNED approval.

I deal with HIPPA in my line of work a lot and you have nothing to worry about there, now being a small village where everyone know everyone i dont know, but if he were even to tell his wife you could sue the pants off him. If they sue people where you life, sorry that is such an American thing.

Hi Amy - It sounds like you are going through a rough stretch here. The most important thing to know is that you are not alone in this, most people here have been through something similar to what you are going through. It will get better. Just take the next small step - it will be worth it.

Happy to have you here, Amy!

One of the great things about this website is that there is always someone online. If you can't sleep, try the chat room.

You can do this Amy. Everyone on here is unique and has different lifestyles and different reasons for doing what we do, but we all have one thing in common and we can all support each other the best way we can. You will get loads of support on here and make some good friends. xx Read some of the stories and you will see, you are not alone. xx
